FAQ : Why don't I always have an ART UNIT associated with my patent?
The USPTO can take a long time to assign an ART UNIT (about 8 months from publication). The ART UNIT is an essential element for calculating grant statistics with comparable patents. Thus, if the ART UNIT is not yet published by the USPTO, it is necessary to specify it. For this, you can use the usual ART UNIT of your patents in the same technical field or use the USPTO resources:
