The "Examine analysis" tab allow you to understand the toughness and experience of your examiner in order to adapt your prosecution.

  • Office action : Compare grant rate and average number of office action between your examiner and your art unit.
  • Interview : Evaluate the effect of an interview on the global grant rate.




List and definitions for each graph:


1) Examiner details: 


This is a reminder to indicate the reviewer's name and associated data. The number of applications is used to determine the experience level of the examiner. The more patents the examiner has examined, the more experience the examiner has.


Note : By unchecking the box "Limit to the same examiner", it is also possible to have statistics on the whole art unit (see below). If the examiner is not yet assigned statistics will be calculated on the whole art unit.


2) Examiner grant rate


This information is a major information because it determines the difficulty/hardness of the examiner in comparison to the rest of the Art Unit. This information must be contextualized according to the other graphs and stats.

Example: If the examiner has a higher grant rate than the art unit, this indicates that the examiner is potentially more likely to grant a patent than his colleagues in the same art unit. 


3) Examine patent status

This corresponds to the number of applications examined and their status. It allows to contextualize the first two graphs (number of applications and grant rate) by giving a size of the statistical basis: 

  • If the number of applications is low, this indicates that the statistical base is low and it is then necessary to decrease the confidence level of the grant rate. 
  • On the other hand, if the number of applications is high (>1000), this confirms the confidence level of the grant rate.

Another important information: the number of pending applications allows to know the number of files managed in parallel by the examiner. A large number of pending applications confirms the "confirmed" status of an examiner.


4) Examiner grant rate per year


This graph allows us to contextualize the number of examined patents by giving the evolution over time. It allows to :

  • confirm if the examiner is confirmed or not.
  • check if there is an evolution in his grant rate.


5) Examiner stats:


These indicators help contextualize the "hardness"/"ease" of the examiner to grant a patent vs the art unit stats : 

  • Months to grant (average delay between filing date and grant date)
  • Average number of AOs
  • Average number of RCE to get granted 
  • Grant rate with AND without interview (effect of an interview on the prosecution)
  • Number of case with interview (check the statistic basis)


6) Examiner grant rate per number of office action

This graph contextualizes the usual number of office actions before an application is granted. It allows you to 

  • see if the number of office action has an influence on the grant rate. 
  • check if it is necessary to continue the prosecution after a certain number of office actions.


7) Art unit grant rate per number of office action

This graph contextualizes the previous graph by comparing the general behavior of the Art unit with that of its examiner.
