Custom fields are particularly handy to classify your cases or to add new fields such as law firm reference for example. Whether you want to tag them by product, strength, or technical area, you will then be able to easily update them directly from the family overview page or the asset case.

You can manage your custom fields in the Admin section (in “Custom fields management" tab).

Orbit Asset allows you to associate custom fields to families, assets (patents, trademarks or designs), documents, contracts or contact.

Then group and search for different types of families (patent families, trademark families or design families) or a group of assets.

Custom fields will be useful in all tabs of Orbit asset:

  • classify the portfolio,
  • visualize past or future costs
  • Organise and classify your inventors (contacts)

Group your portfolio by custom fields

Group your tasks by custom fields value

Group your past/estimated cost by custom fields value

It is possible to create, modify or delete an existing custom fields in the "Admin" section under the "Custom field management" tab:

  • Apply to : The system allows you to associate a tag to one or more levels (Family, Patent, TM, Design, Other, Contract, Contact or Document).
  • Type: This is where you define the format of your custom field. You can choose between:

    2. Single choice : Choose one value from a pre-defined list of choices (values are defined in the admin tab and cannot be added via the standard interface).
    3. Multiple choice : Choose multiple values from a pre-defined list of choices (values are defined in the admin tab and cannot be added via the standard interface).
    4. Date : This is a date field with a pop up date picker. Dates can be search as a date in the search module.
    5. Number : This type of field allows to add number only.
    6. Range : This type of field allows to choose a number within a pre-defined range. This can be used for a ranking for example.
    7. URL : This fields allows the user to add an URL (this URL is then easily clickable). This type of field is particularly interesting to associate a website page to a patent, trademark or asset family.
    8. Email : This fields allows the user to add an email (this email is then easily clickable and allow to send an email via your standard system).

Note:

In the previous version of the custom fields module (the 'Tags management' module), "Multiple choice" and "Single choice" fields were distinguished by cardinality.

"Multiple choice" now corresponds to older tags with cardinality > 1

"Single choices" now corresponds to older tags with cardinality =1
